Distance Learning – Online MBA DegreesDo employers value online MBA degrees the same as they value MBA degrees earned in a traditional classroom environment? These days, that's the multi-thousand-dollar question – literally – because that's how much it's going to cost to complete the requirements for an online MBA degree. And that's a huge sum of money to put at risk! A fresh look at online MBA degrees The growth in online MBA degrees is exploding and with so many people enrolling, employers are being forced to re-evaluate their opinions of distance learning. They need to realize that many of these programs are capable of producing the same caliber graduates as traditional learning environments. Even so, employers know that not all online MBA degree-granting institutions are equal when it comes to curriculum, instruction and accreditation. Employers also know that some of the online MBA degrees that graduates hold in their hands aren't worth the paper they're printed on. These are the degrees that have been issued by so-called 'diploma mills' which are nothing more than non-accredited institutions that charge huge amounts of money for a worthless education. If you're considering an online MBA program, steer clear of these institutions! Instead, pursue a degree from a reputable institution that's been accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting agency. An online MBA degree from such an institution should be similar in structure to that which students would earn if they attended class on campus. Online students can work around a school schedule that's more convenient, but they're still going to listen to lectures, read applicable chapters from similar textbooks and participate in classroom discussion. They'll just do all while online. Students pursuing online MBA degrees might also be exposed to podcasts, videoconferences and lectures that have been videotaped. Since most MBA programs also require residency hours, even those who opt for online MBA degrees likely will be required to physically participate in pertinent workshops and other coursework. Online students will be required to take and pass various tests but they'll do so in the presence of a local proctor. It's more a matter of convenience While the coursework and curriculum won't differ substantially, what is different is that online students have more flexibility in their scheduling. Some online students find that with accelerated courses, they're able to complete their MBA degree requirements more quickly than those who sit in a traditional classroom environment. These are the main reasons why students choose this path. Interestingly, online MBA degrees won't necessarily cost less. As with any type of degree, costs vary considerably among institutions. In general, the more prestigious the granting institution, the more the degree will cost the student. Students should be particularly suspicious of online MBA degree programs that are priced substantially lower than the competition. This isn't to say the program is a fraud or a scam, but those considering it should carefully research the institution's history, accreditation and even talk with former students before enrolling. So to summarize, if you want an employer to take your distance learning online MBA degree seriously, you've got to make sure you choose the right program. Read More Click Here
